Obverse description Central field displays the elaborate multi-quartered armorial achievement of Henry Julius, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, comprising numerous heraldic divisions including lions, eagles, and horizontal bars, surmounted by a ducal crown with ornate crest. The Saxon wildman (Wilder Mann) stands as a supporter to the right of the shield, depicted rampant and holding a pine tree, while additional heraldic supporters flank the left side. The entire composition is rendered in high relief consistent with the hammered coinage of the period. The encircling outer legend reads HENRICUS JULIUS D G PO E HA D BR ET L P P, identifying the issuer as Henry Julius by the grace of God, and is separated from the inner field by a beaded border.
