Obverse description Central field depicts the Wild Man of Brunswick (Wilder Mann), a standing nude figure covered in thick body hair, grasping an uprooted tree trunk as a club in his raised right hand. The Wild Man stands atop a rocky outcrop, with an oval escutcheon bearing the date 15-99 split to either side of the figure. A finely engraved inner border separates the central device from the surrounding circular legend. The peripheral legend reads HENR IVL D G POST EPIS HAL D BRUN E LUN 15 99, referencing Henry Julius as Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg and administrator of the bishopric of Halberstadt, rendered in Latin capital letters.
