Obverse description Central field depicts a sculptural monument featuring a horse figure set within a stone archway or gate structure, commemorating the history of the town of Tapiau (founded 1255, renamed Gvardeysk in 1946). Above the monument, in the upper field, appears the heraldic eagle shield of East Prussia. The circular legend along the upper rim reads ИСТОРИЯ ВОСТОЧНОЙ ПРУССИИ (History of East Prussia) in Cyrillic, while the inscription TAPIAU 1255 appears vertically to the right of the monument in Latin script. The lower legend reads ГВАРДЕЙСК 1946 in Cyrillic. The design is framed by a beaded inner border, with small stars flanking the lower inscription.
