Obverse description Central device features the quartered royal arms of Great Britain — displaying the lions of England, the lion of Scotland, and the harp of Ireland — enclosed within an ornate oval cartouche surrounded by the collar and motto of the Order of the Garter. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown and supported on the left by a crowned lion rampant and on the right by a unicorn, both rendered in high relief. A scrolling ribbon at the base of the supporters bears the motto DIEU ET MON DROIT. The peripheral legend in Latin reads GEORGIUS·D·G·MAG·BRIT·FRANC·ET·HIB·REX·FID·D, identifying George I as King of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, Defender of the Faith.
