| Obverse description | Equestrian portrait of Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg, depicted in three-quarter view facing right, mounted on a rearing horse in full gallop across a battlefield landscape rendered in the lower field. The Elector is shown in armour, his plumed helmet adorned with feathers, brandishing a sword aloft in his right hand. A scroll or ribbon device bearing the motto OB SVBDITOS SERVATOS (For the salvation of his subjects) is inscribed across the field before the figure. The circular outer legend reads FRID:WILH:D°G°MAR°BR SRIARC & EL, identifying Frederick William by the grace of God, Margrave of Brandenburg, Arch-Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire and Elector. The coin's reeded edge frames the boldly engraved, high-relief composition in the Baroque style characteristic of Brandenburg victory thalers. |
