Obverse description The obverse features a rampant lion facing left, crowned, with an elaborately detailed mane and raised forepaws, occupying the central field. The lion is rendered in a bold Germanic heraldic style typical of early seventeenth-century Rhenish coinage. A circular legend surrounds the central device, reading FRIDERICUS D G REX BOHEMIAE PRINCEPS ELECTOR, identifying Frederick V as King of Bohemia and Prince-Elector. Small decorative stops separate the legend elements. The entire design is contained within a plain inner border.
