| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the elaborate multi-quartered armorial achievement of the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, displaying lions, horses, and other dynastic charges across numerous quarterings, surmounted by multiple crested helms with mantling issuing from the shield. The arms are rendered in high relief in the characteristic early seventeenth-century German hammered style. Encircling the shield is a continuous Latin legend reading FRIDERIC ULRIC D G DUX BRUNSVIC ET L, identifying the ruler as Frederick Ulrich, Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg, by the grace of God. |
