| Reverse description | Large oval heraldic shield bearing the quartered arms of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Cassel, surmounted by a royal crown of elaborate form. The shield is supported on either side by a rampant crowned lion, each rendered with fine mane detail, standing on a decorative scrollwork base. The motto of the Order of the Garter, HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE, is inscribed on a ribbon or belt encircling the oval shield, referencing Frederick II's membership in the Order. The entire composition is set within a dentilated rim border. |
