Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Frederick I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg facing right, wearing a long flowing allonge wig with elaborate curls cascading over his shoulders, and armored pauldron visible at the truncation. The effigy is rendered in fine high-relief baroque style with exceptional detail in the hair and drapery. The Latin legend encircles the bust along the border, reading FRIDERIC D G DUX SAX I C & MONT, identifying the duke by title. A milled or toothed inner border frames the design.
