Obverse description Right-facing draped and armored bust of Duke Frederick I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, wearing a voluminous long curled periwig fashionable in the late Baroque period, with elaborate plate armor visible at the shoulder and a lace cravat at the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and drapery, occupying the majority of the flan. The encircling Latin legend reads FRIDERICUS D. G. DUX SAX. IUL. CLIV. ET MONT. S. R. I. ARCHIM. ET ELECTOR., identifying the duke by name and his titles. A milled border frames the coin's edge.
