Additional information

Frederick I of Württemberg spent years cultivating relationships with Protestant princes across the Holy Roman Empire, and the thaler coinage of his reign served partly as a vehicle for that diplomacy — large silver pieces circulated at courts and treasuries, not pockets. He had received the ducal title upgrade from Rudolf II in 1599 after considerable political maneuvering and financial concessions, making his titulature on coinage a matter of some sensitivity.

The ST#7828 reference places this within Slg. Tietjen, the cataloging standard for Württemberg thalers that remains the specialist benchmark for the series.
