| Additional information |
Frederick Francis II ascended to the Grand Duchy in 1842 at the age of seventeen, and the revolutionary upheavals of 1848 shaped his early reign considerably. Mecklenburg-Schwerin was among the German states swept by liberal agitation that year, with popular assemblies demanding constitutional reform. Frederick Francis made limited concessions before reasserting traditional authority — one of the more successful conservative recoveries among the smaller German states.
The .750 fineness places this below the standard of the North German Thaler convention, a point worth noting when assessing contemporary trade acceptance.
