Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Frederick of Brunswick-Lüneburg facing right, wearing elaborately decorated armor with a large lace ruff collar, his hair falling in loose curls to the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief within a beaded inner circle, displaying fine Baroque engraving characteristic of early 17th-century German thalers. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, identifying Frederick by his title as Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg and Provost of the Archbishopric of Bremen. Dot separators punctuate the legend throughout.
