Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I facing left, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and laurel wreath. The imperial legend is arranged around the periphery in raised Latin letters, reading clockwise from the lower left. The mint mark 'A' (Vienna) appears in the lower field below the truncation. The portrait is in the youthful neoclassical style characteristic of the early years of Franz Joseph I's reign.
