| Obverse description | Crowned and armored bust of Emperor Ferdinand II facing right, wearing a richly decorated cuirass with an elaborate lace ruff collar. The emperor is depicted with a beard and mustache, his crown featuring prominent arched bands and cross finial. The circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading FERDINANDVS II D G RO IM S A GER HV BO REX, identifying him as Ferdinand II, by the grace of God, Roman Emperor, always august, King of Germany, Hungary, and Bohemia. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the late Renaissance imperial style characteristic of the Graz Mint. |
