Obverse description Armored and crowned elderly bust of Ferdinand I facing right, depicted as a half-length effigy with a long beard, holding a scepter over the right shoulder and wearing the collar chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The portrait is executed in the Renaissance style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Central European coinage. The legend, abbreviated in Latin, encircles the figure within a beaded inner circle, reading FERD I EL RO IM S AVG GER HVN BO REX.
