Obverse description Draped bust of Ernest III facing right, wearing armor with decorative collar and lace cravat, the hair loosely curled and a short beard visible. The effigy is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The Latin legend runs along the outer periphery, reading ERNESTUS. D. G. HOLSATIÆ. SCHAWENBVR(GI). ET. STER., identifying the count by name and title.

Reverse description Ornate quartered heraldic shield bearing the four-fold arms of Holstein-Schaumburg-Pinneberg, with a central inescutcheon, surmounted by three elaborate crested helmets with mantling. The date is divided near the bottom of the shield. The Latin legend, continuing the obverse title, encircles the composition and reads NEBERGÆ. COMES - DOMI(NUS). GEHMÆ., with the last two digits of the date completing the inscription.
