Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing effigy of Ernst II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair and a small mustache and chin beard. The truncation is plain and unadorned. The circumferential legend reads ERNST HERZOG ZU SACHSEN COBURG-GOTHA in Latin characters, separated by the mint mark F at the base of the design below the portrait. A beaded border frames the entire obverse.
