Obverse description The field is dominated by a large inverted heart containing an eight-line German devotional inscription in calligraphic script, with the date 1668 and the mint name GOTHA flanking the text at mid-height. Above the heart, a large ornate crown is depicted beneath radiating sunbeams, from which the name IESUS emerges at the top of the field in capital letters. A skull is placed at the base of the heart, serving as a memento mori device. A circular outer border frames the central composition, with a continuous German legend running around the periphery of the coin. The overall design reflects the Lutheran funerary artistic tradition of 17th-century German princely coinage.
