Additional information

Eberhard III ruled Württemberg through some of the most destructive decades in German history — the duchy had been devastated by the Thirty Years' War, and by 1669 was still in the slow process of demographic and economic recovery. This thaler belongs to his mature coinage, struck well after the 1648 Peace of Westphalia but reflecting a mint operating under continued fiscal strain. The Krause-Mishler reference aligns this with the Stuttgart mint output of the period, though Württemberg coinage of this reign is notoriously difficult to attribute to a single facility with certainty.
