Reverse description Central shield bearing the Medici arms — six roundels (palle) arranged in their traditional pattern — surmounted by the grand-ducal crown. The shield is flanked on either side by a six-pointed star, emblems associated with the Order of Saint Stephen, of which the Grand Dukes of Tuscany were sovereign. The composition is bold and heraldically precise, filling the field with confident authority. A circular Latin legend encircles the central device, reading as a commemorative dedication to the ancient majesty of Pisa, separated from the toothed outer rim by a raised border.
