Reverse description Three-quarter length figure of St. Vitus, patron saint of Corvey, depicted frontally and holding a palm branch in one hand and a book in the other, upon which a bird — emblematic of his martyrdom — is perched. A lion's head appears in low relief at the lower right of the field, serving as a secondary heraldic or decorative device. The encircling Latin legend names the saint as patron of Corvey, with the date of issue incorporated at the conclusion of the inscription.
