Obverse description Elaborate quartered coat of arms of the Bishopric of Münster surmounted by a crested helm with elaborate mantling and flanked by decorative scrollwork. The shield displays the arms of the see and the personal arms of Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen. A mitre appears above the helm crest. The circular Latin legend surrounds the entire achievement, running along the coin's periphery within a beaded border.

Reverse description Full-length figure of Saint Paul the Apostle standing facing, draped in flowing robes, holding a long sword upright in his right hand and a book (the Epistles) in his left hand, with a halo about his head. The date 1659 is divided in two parts to the upper left and right of the saint's nimbus within the legend. The circular Latin inscription naming Saint Paul as patron of Münster surrounds the figure, all within a beaded border.
