| Reverse description | Central device depicting a large flaming altar or censer on a stepped plinth, its column of smoke rising dramatically into a clouded sky, with a wreath of laurel or oak tied around the base of the vessel. A panoramic view of the town of Wernigerode stretches across the middle ground on either side of the altar, showing buildings, church towers, and the surrounding landscape in fine relief. The upper circular legend reads GOTT SEY GEBENEDEYT • FÜR DIESE SELTNE ZEIT, while the lower portion of the field contains a four-line inscription commemorating the fifty-year reign, with the mintmaster's initials I.B.H. at the base. The overall composition is characteristic of German Baroque commemorative coinage of the mid-eighteenth century. |
