Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Margrave Christian Ernest facing right, wearing a long flowing curled wig typical of the late 17th-century Baroque style. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the lace cravat and shoulder armor. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, separated from the inner field by a beaded border.

Reverse description A large oval, multiply-quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the various territories of the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, enclosed within an ornate laurel wreath tied at the base. A princely crown surmounts the shield. The date 1683 appears at the base of the wreath, and a continuous Latin legend runs around the periphery of the coin, separated from the wreath by a beaded border.
