| Reverse description | The reverse bears a fifteen-line epitaphic inscription in German, filling the entire field in capital letters, recording the principal biographical dates of Princess Sophie Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst: her birth at Gottorf on 5 December 1630, her marriage at Zerbst on 16 September 1649, her widowhood on 4 July 1667, and her death at Coswig on 12 December 1680, noting that she lived 50 years and 8 days. The text is presented without an encircling border, occupying virtually the entire coin face. The date of death appears within the body of the inscription. The lettering is rendered in a bold, slightly informal engraved Roman script typical of late seventeenth-century German memorial thalers. |
