Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Charles Theodore, Elector Palatine, facing right, with flowing wig. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the baroque portrait style characteristic of late 18th-century German coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading CAR · THEODOR · D : G · C · P · R · S · R · I · A · T · & · EL·, recording his titles as Count Palatine of the Rhine, Arch-Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire. The field is smooth and the portrait occupies the full coin diameter.
