Obverse description Draped bust of Charles Louis, Elector Palatine, facing right, with long flowing hair, set within a beaded inner circle. The elector is depicted in armored dress with an elaborate lace cravat. The surrounding legend, divided by the bust, reads in Latin identifying him as Count Palatine of the Rhine and Vicar of the Holy Roman Empire. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the baroque style typical of mid-17th century German coinage.
