| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the elaborately rendered quartered coat of arms of the Abbey of Corvey, surmounted by the abbatial mitre and flanked by ornate Baroque foliate mantling. The escutcheon displays the arms of the abbey including the crossed keys of St. Peter in the lower quarters, rendered in fine relief with considerable detail. The circular Latin legend surrounding the arms reads CASPARUS D.G. ABBAS CORBEIENSIS S.R.I. PRINCEPS with the date 1739, identifying Caspar von Böselager as Abbot of Corvey and Prince of the Holy Roman Empire. The entire composition is executed in the High Baroque style characteristic of ecclesiastical coinage of the period. The coin's broad milled border frames the design with a fine toothed rim. |
