Obverse description The arms of Saxe-Meiningen, consisting of a quartered heraldic shield bearing the traditional Saxon barry with a crancelin and subsidiary charges, displayed centrally within a wreath of oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The surrounding circular legend reads FÜR DIE HERZOGL S MEINING MÜNZE ZU SAALFELD, denoting the intended destination of the coinage machinery as the ducal mint at Saalfeld. The design is executed in high relief with fine engraving characteristic of Munich workshop production.
