Obverse description Half-length figure of Duke Augustus the Younger of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel facing slightly right, depicted in armour with a sceptre or baton held upright in his right hand. The duke is shown with a broad-brimmed hat or period headgear, wearing elaborately decorated plate armour with ornamental detailing visible on the breastplate. The effigy is set within a plain inner circle, with the ducal title legend running along the outer border in Latin capital letters. The overall style is characteristic of mid-17th century German hammered coinage, with a bold, somewhat crude but vigorous portraiture typical of the Zellerfeld Mint.
