Reverse description The reverse bears a seven-line Latin funerary inscription filling the entire field within a beaded border, commemorating the death of Elector Augustus of Saxony. The text reads: PIE IN CHRISTO OB-DORMIVIT XI FEBR: AN: M.D. LXXXVI CVM VIXISSET AN: LIX ME: VI DI: XI HO: XII, recording that he died piously in Christ on 11 February 1586, having lived 59 years, 6 months, 11 days, and 12 hours. The mintmaster's initials HB appear in a cartouche at the base of the inscription. The inscription is executed in a Renaissance monumental lettering style, with horizontal rules separating some lines for emphasis.
