Additional information

Schwarzburg's thalers of the early seventeenth century are among the most administratively peculiar issues in the German series, produced under joint rule by multiple counts simultaneously — a consequence of the Schwarzburg dynasty's stubborn adherence to partition inheritance long after most territories had consolidated. This 1605 piece names five co-rulers across two branches, Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, whose lands had been divided and subdivided across generations to the point of near-absurdity.

Fischer Sc#181 is among the more precisely documented attributions for this notoriously complex series, where die marriages and co-regency combinations produce a cataloging nightmare that has occupied specialists for decades.
