| Obverse description | Three ornate crested helmets displayed above an eight-fold quartered shield of arms, with the date divided across the field at either side of the central escutcheon. The circular Latin legend surrounding the design records the titles and names of the five co-ruling counts of Stolberg. The heraldic composition is rendered in the elaborate German Renaissance style typical of late sixteenth-century Rhenish coinage. |
