Additional information

Ákos Barcsai ruled Transylvania under brutal Ottoman pressure, installed as prince in 1658 after a punishing Tatar raid that devastated the principality following György Rákóczi II's disastrous Polish campaign. His coinage is scarce by any measure — his reign lasted barely two years before György Rákóczi II returned with forces and Barcsai was murdered in 1661, almost certainly on orders from the Ottoman-backed successor János Kemény. The window for minting was narrow and politically chaotic.

Resch#20 is among the rarer die marriages of his thaler output.
