Reverse description A finely engraved panoramic cityscape of Basel dominates the upper two-thirds of the field, depicting the city's distinctive skyline with the prominent twin-spired Basel Minster (cathedral) at left, a dense row of civic buildings and towers extending to the right, and the Rhine bridge spanning the river in the middle distance with rolling hills beyond. The detailed scene is rendered in a refined engraving style characteristic of late 18th-century Swiss coinage. In the lower portion, a horizontal rule separates the cityscape from the exergue, where the Latin inscription BASILEA ('Basel') appears above the date 1793, the whole flanked by a delicate laurel spray on either side.
