Obverse description Central design features the enthroned Virgin Mary with the Christ Child, both crowned, seated facing and holding a sceptre, set within an oval shield flanked by the inscription RESP and GOSL. Below the central device, the Goslar civic eagle is displayed within a crowned shield, with the mintmaster initials IAB in the exergue. The entire design is encircled by the Latin legend SPES NOSTRA IESUS - DEI ET MARIAE FILIUS, rendered in raised relief along the inner border. The coin exhibits a finely milled outer rim characteristic of the period's mechanical coinage. The composition and style reflect the devotional civic coinage tradition of the Imperial Free City of Goslar.
