Obverse description At center, the city arms of Augsburg — a large pine cone (Zirbelnuss) resting on an ornate baroque pedestal — enclosed within an oval cartouche of elaborate baroque foliate scrollwork. The Roman numeral date MDCXCIV is divided and placed in the upper field on either side of a decorative floral ornament at the apex of the cartouche. The circular legend runs around the periphery within a beaded border, reading AVGVSTA VIN - DELICORVM, denoting the Latin name of the city of Augsburg.
