| Obverse description | The Hamburg city arms, depicting a three-towered fortified castle gateway, occupies the center of the field, enclosed within an elaborate palm wreath. The date 1687 is divided to the left and right of the towers, with the mint-master initials HL appearing at the base of the wreath. The circular legend reads MONETA NOVA CIVITATIS HAMBURGENSIS, distributed around the periphery in Latin characters. The overall composition is finely engraved in the baroque style typical of late seventeenth-century German civic coinage. |

| Reverse description | A crowned double-headed imperial eagle with wings displayed dominates the field, each head facing outward and surmounted by a single imperial crown, with a larger crown above the junction of the two necks. An orb bearing a cross is displayed on the eagle's breast. The surrounding legend, distributed along the full circumference in Latin characters, cites the titles of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I. The engraving reflects the authoritative imperial iconography standard on late seventeenth-century German Reichsthalers. |
