Reverse description Full-length facing figure of Saint Stephen, patron protomartyr, depicted in ecclesiastical vestments with a nimbus about his head. He holds a palm branch in his right hand — the martyr's symbol — and a book (the Gospels) in his left, with stones of his martyrdom resting at his feet. The circular legend naming the saint runs around the periphery within a beaded border, the whole executed in the robust late-Renaissance style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German civic coinage.
