Additional information

Hannover struck this thaler in 1625 at the height of the Thirty Years' War, when the city was navigating the precarious early phases of a conflict that would depopulate much of the German territories before its end. The city had not yet been absorbed into the Duchy of Calenberg in any meaningful administrative sense, and its municipal coinage retained an independence that would diminish considerably over the following decades.

BuckMeier 151a distinguishes this variety from closely related dies of the same year — collectors should verify the specific reverse die characteristics before attributing.
