| Reverse description | Laureate and armored bust of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II facing right, depicted with a prominent lace ruff collar and richly decorated cuirass in the Baroque manner. The emperor's hair falls in curls beneath the laurel wreath, and the portrait is rendered with fine detail characteristic of the period. The encircling legend FERDINANDVS. II. D. G. ROM(A). IMP. SEM(P). AVGVSTVS. runs around the periphery, proclaiming Ferdinand II by the grace of God, Ever-August Emperor of the Romans. The reverse acknowledges imperial suzerainty, a standard convention on contemporary German city thalers. |
