| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the rampant lion of Brunswick faces right, rendered in bold relief with elaborate mane detailing, supported by a divided shield at lower left bearing the city's arms. The date appears in the upper field within the legend. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONETA. NOVA. BRVNSVICENSIS., separated by a decorative stop, and is contained between two concentric borders of beading along the coin's rim. The overall execution is characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century German hammered coinage, with a slightly irregular flan typical of the period. |
