| Obverse description | Central field features the rampant Brunswick lion passant guardant to the right, rendered in bold relief with an elaborately detailed mane and extended claws, set within a beaded inner circle. The lion is depicted in the heraldic tradition characteristic of Lower Saxon civic coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. The surrounding legend, separated from the inner circle by a plain band, reads MONETA. NOVA. BRVNSWICENSIS., denoting the new coinage of Brunswick. |
