| Obverse description | The arms of Strasbourg displayed centrally within an ornate crowned shield, supported on either side by rampant lions as heraldic supporters. The shield bears the traditional bend sinister of Strasbourg, rendered with fine hatching and decorative detail characteristic of mid-16th century hammered coinage. A fleur-de-lis surmounts the crown above the shield. The circular Latin legend NVMVS REIP ARGENTORATENS runs along the outer border, separated from the central device by a beaded inner circle. |
