Obverse description The obverse displays the elaborate civic arms of Hamelin at centre: a fortified gate with three towers, the outer towers surmounted by crosses and the central tower by a decorative finial, with a circular wheel emblem (the Hamelin wheel) prominently positioned in the lower portion of the gate. The date 1544 is inscribed in the upper field between the towers. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer rim.
