Obverse description Rightward-facing profile effigy of King Henry VII, crowned and wearing royal robes, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style introduced for this issue. The bust is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery. This depiction represents one of the earliest realistic portrait likenesses on an English coin, departing from the conventional facing or three-quarter portraits of earlier medieval coinage. The legend reads in Latin, abbreviating the king's titles as King of England and France.
