Obverse description Central field displays the semi-oval papal coat of arms of Urban VIII (Barberini family), charged with three bees arranged two and one, enclosed within an ornate cartouche with scrolling acanthus mantling. Above the shield are the crossed keys of Saint Peter and the papal tiara, all rendered in high relief. A rope-twist inner border frames the design, with the circular Latin legend distributed around the periphery.

Reverse description Saint Peter, bearded and draped in voluminous robes, is depicted seated facing three-quarters left, holding a large key in his raised left hand and a book in his right. A horizontal line separates the lower exergue, which bears a small papal shield and the mint year. The figure is rendered in a bold baroque style with deeply modelled drapery, and the circular Latin legend names the saint and the city of Rome around the upper periphery.
