| Reverse description | Two standing apostolic figures face one another in the central field: Saint Peter on the left, robed and draped, holding a papal key in his left hand and raising his right hand in blessing, and Saint Paul on the right, similarly draped, holding a sword as his traditional attribute. Between their feet at the base appears a small cartouche or mint mark device flanked by the abbreviated legend ٠ROM٠ denoting the Rome Mint. The surrounding circular legend reads ٠S٠PETRVS٠ ٠S٠PAVLVS٠ ٠ROMA٠, separated by pellet stops, all within a plain inner border. The figures are rendered in a bold, high-relief hammered style consistent with the artistic output of the Rome Mint under the early pontificate of Paul V. |
