| Reverse description | Saint Peter is depicted enthroned and facing front, wearing pontifical vestments and the papal tiara, his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding a long cross-staff or key. The figure is rendered in the mannered Renaissance style characteristic of the Roman mint under Paul IV. A horizontal ground line separates the enthroned figure from the exergue, where the mintmaster's mark appears between the letters O and M forming the word ROMA. The surrounding circular legend, divided across the upper field, reads S PETRVS APOSTOLVS, identifying the figure as Saint Peter the Apostle. |
